TRIP 6: Copper River Raft Expedition
July 16th – 24th
Remote wilderness rafting (Class II River Rafting) and camping expedition.
This wilderness rafting expedition begins with a scenic drive through the Alaska Range and a night at an historic lodge. Next we launch the rafts in the Copper River and the excitement begins immediately as we paddle through dramatic Wood Canyon. The Copper River cuts through the coastal Chugach Mountains and we will enjoy incredible scenery the entire 100 mile raft trip. At the climax, we paddle through Abercrombie rapids and then past two glaciers which dump into the river as the Copper exits the mountains. The river trip ends in the port town of Cordova, which is not accessible by road so we will take a jaw-dropping small plane flight back to our rafting put in.
